Because of his great loves for nature, travel and exploring the world and cultures, traveler Omar Attira began in 1997 his famous trip around the world on foot, after preparations and exercises that lasted for years in his home country Libya. He set out from his home in Benghazi city in the eastern part of Libya to start his long on-foot trip to Egypt, and this trip was the first step in his travels around the world, and from there he continued walking on foot across three continents: Asia, Europe and Africa. He crossed 76 States. On his trip, which lasted 8 years and two months, he explored the life, history, geography and cultures of different peoples and environments, and took thousands of photographs. During his trip, Omar experienced lots of difficulties and hardships; he survived Turkey’s devastating earthquake that occurred in 1999, and across the Victoria Falls in Africa, the second greatest waterfalls in the world; and he also survived an attempted murder and kidnapping in the jungle, and was about to be prey to Africa’s lions. He also suffered from a temporary paralysis in the left arm in the middle of his trip. Omar Attira was the first to fly the flags of Libya and the African Union over the crest of the highest volcanic mountain in the world; Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, where it took him three days to climb and reach the summit. During his exciting trip, which lasted for 3000 days, Omar met with international prominent personalities: presidents, princes, ministers and celebrities from various walks of life. He visited the prison of freedom fighter Nelson Mandela and visited the International Court of Justice in The Hague. During his world trip, Omar raised the slogan "we challenge the blockade by walking on foot" as Libya was then under the embargo imposed by the international community at the beginning of his trip, and then he raised the slogan "Yes, to peace and security…No, to violence and terrorism" after the 9/11 attacks in the United States. After returning home in 2006, traveler Omar Attira won the third rank in the Photography Festival in Germany, by participating with pictures he had been taken for children in Africa. In the future, traveler Omar Attira intends to go on touring the other half of the world crossing the other three continents; North America, South America and Australia. The Traveler’s Profile At twelve o'clock, Sunday 15th of January 1978, traveler Omar Attira was born in the Libyan city of Benghazi where he grew up and lived his troublemaking childhood with his family, to which he is very attached. He loved playing most of the time and he used to make his own toys manually. Omar loves nature and animals particularly cats that he used keep and gets very sad when he loses them. As of early age, he used to love traveling; his dream was to tour the world, and his hobby was coin collecting, stamps and photography. He received his basic, intermediate and secondary schooling in the city of Benghazi his birthplace, in the Birka neighborhood. History and geography were his preferred subjects. He excelled in them, and during classes, he would distractedly draw maps on his desk, and this prompted the teacher to sack him from class as a punishment. His father Belaid Attira was a merchant who died in 2006. His major advice to his son was: "Beware where to tread and strive to achieve success". His mother, Mrs. Mudallalah, was a loving housewife, caring for her family and domestic life. Omar describes her as a teacher. Mrs. Mudallalah has four sons, including Omar and six daughters. They are all leading a closely-tied family life. Omar’s model is his elder sister Zaynab; a lawyer with strong personality and a successful career. She has supported him since childhood.

Le Profil du Voyageur Le voyageur Omar Attira est né le dimanche 15 janvier 1978, à douze heures, dans la ville libyenne de Benghazi où il a grandi et a vécu son enfance avec sa famille, à laquelle il est très attaché. Sa mère, Mme Mudallalah, était une femme au foyer affectueuse qui s’occuppait de sa famille et de la vie domestique. Omar la décrit en tant qu’une institutrice.
